Epilepsy is a medical condition that produces seizures affecting a range of mental and physical functions. Approximately 1 in 26 Americans will develop epilepsy at some point in their lifetime. Epilepsy is the fourth most common neurological disorder and affects people of all ages. Epilepsy is notably common, exceptionally threatening to the well being of the individual and potentially deadly, especially in children. But the effectiveness of cannabis and CBD in regards to epilepsy treatment is finally gaining acknowledgment from the scientific community.
During the 70th annual meeting of the American Epilepsy Society the results of an ongoing study that began in 2014 with children from epilepsy treatment centers nationwide were shared. The study revealed the efficacy and safety of Epidiolex (Cannabidiol) and was deemed successful in the reduction and control of epileptic seizures. Cannabidiol (CBD) was effective in reducing both the frequency and severity of seizures in both children and adults. Patients who received the treatment were found to have exhibited a median reduction in seizures of 45.1 percent.
You would assume many families dealing with epilepsy of a loved one would rejoice and be first in line to use this miracle extract of the cannabis plant. Unfortunately, it is not that simple. Despite the promising future shown by the efficacy of CBD in treating epilepsy, physicians, patients and parents of patients have found it challenging to regulate and understand the precise dosages at this time due to lack of research and restrictions of the cannabis plant being labeled and a Schedule 1 Controlled Substance. Physicians caution in the attempt to procure and prescribe the substance on their own without consulting a medical professional. Some patients and parents of patients, however, have no choice: Those who discover that their epileptic conditions are treatable or more tolerable with CBD oil live in states in which the substance is forbidden, forcing them to obtain the medicine through back channels.

You don't have to be a scientist or a doctor to be educated on cannabidiols and their benefits. Just like with any new discoveries in the science world, the experimentations on cannabidiol (CBD) are continuously developing and new information is found on a regular basis. However, it is hard to truly understand the benefits that cannabidiols have to offer if you are not familiar with the vocabulary used in the research material.
